For the record the two things I think is a total waste money is Starbucks coffee and tapioca tea drinks. If you ever calculate it down to how much profit these drink places make, it’s ridiculous. When made in bulk it takes less than 12 cents max to make the drinks no matter how complicated they are. But you know what, I give into the social aspect of buying these drinks. When I’m out in a group with friends, I can’t help but get one. However, when I’m by myself, I can easily refuse. Case and point: I was in Starbucks the other day buying bulk coffee for my trip. I bought 2 lbs of coffee and when I was checking out the barista asked if I wanted a drink with the coffee beans. “No thanks,” I politely declined. “Are you sure?” “Yeah, I’m sure. I’m good.” I’m already spending 24 bucks on coffee no need to spend 4 bucks more. “How about I give you a drink since you bought 2 lbs of coffee?” Haha… I can easily refuse a $4 drink, but free, I can’t refuse. “Sure, I’de like a…….” Starbucks might have defeated me 100 times, but this one time I got a free drink.

Labor day

I spent this Labor day in Port Lavaca. For all those keeping track, this is my first time going home to Port Lavaca for the year. I feel bad for not going home cause I’m busy doing other things and I end up putting off going home. Back then when I didn’t have many responsibilities it was so easy to visit home. I didn’t need to tell anyone and I can go home on a “Hey! I feel like going home!”. These days to visit home it’s almost like the stars have to align before I can make that trip home. This time going home was like going to Duffcon2. We LAN’ed the computers together and we played Starcraft and Warcraft3. I’m glad my friends finally saw that Warcraft3 had better custom maps. We did spend the majority of the time playing tower defense and footmen frenzy. I know it sounds dorky and a waste of a weekend, but it felt good to not have a care in the world when playing games only getting up to eat and use the restroom. It was a short glimpse of what use to be and how I use to live. Now that I returned to Houston things are back to normal and no more gaming until the next Duffcon.

Worse luck

Some people have good luck at spurts, but I have the worst luck when I get pulled over. It all started when I was still in college. I was exiting off i35 to make a right at the MLK exit to get to UT campus. As many times as I’ve driven that intersection I’ve always seen people make a right on red ignoring the sign. Yeah, I got pulled over. Almost 3 years ago I was driving on Washington. It’s a 4 lane street 2 lanes going one way separated by the double yellow lines. I was heading home and almost about to make a right turn when I see a cop driving in the oncoming traffic lane. No big deal, there’s a police station close to downtown so I think nothing of it. When I make the right turn I see the flashing lights and the cop got me for expired inspection. Who gets a ticket like that? I mean the cop must have been starring at oncoming traffic’s inspection stickers. Sigh.. What bad luck. I saved the best for last though. Last month I was exiting 59 trying to make a right turn. Well the right turn comes fairly quickly and double white lines is used to prevent drivers exiting the freeway from immediately getting into the right lane. In my defense while in a company vehicle I prefer not to get in the front and cut people off to make the right turn. Instead I chose to cross the double white lines when it was clear and get in line for the right turn lane. Yeah, the cop saw it differently. My opinion is if I was to get pulled over, get me for speeding. At least let me have the thrill of going fast before getting caught.

Sheesh! Give me a break!

Gov’t spending

I’m sick of all the government spending. It seems like the government has butt into every sector and tried to get this country out of the recession. The insurance sector was given hundreds of billions. The banking sector was given hundreds of billions. The auto industry was given 10’s of billions. The housing industry was given billions. Since the government is pumping trillions into our economy how about the government bail out the average Joe. How about the government give out thousands of dollars to each individual who didn’t spend frivolously into debt? How about the government give thousands to those who were responsible and paid their bills on time to avoid foreclosure? How about the government give thousands to those who paid their taxes on time? Tell you what, I’ll decline all that if the government will give me what I lost in my 401k from the ones who were irresponsible. And you know what, I won’t even withdraw it now. I’ll even wait until I retire before I use that money. How about that for irresponsible spending?

Football season is finally kicking off. The summer’s killer on sports especially if you aren’t a baseball fan. I’m glad football’s finally started. I’ve been filling in the TV time with TLC, Discovery Channel, Food Channel, and History Channel. This is also the time of the year everyone’s doing the draft to get their fantasy players. For some reason I can’t get into fantasy sports. It seems like everytime I join a league I end up drafting players and not making any transactions for the remainder of the year. I don’t know what it is. I guess I don’t like to live in a fantasy world. I guess I prefer to play the real thing. But that doesn’t really mean much since most of the flag football friends are into fantasy. I guess my only excuse is I’m lazy.
