It’s been a hectic day.  Sometimes you have to help people who can’t help themselves even though you don’t want to.

Training

Tonight I report from Boerne, Texas. If you don’t know where that is, look on the map. I was one of four selected to attend a class on the latest technology on the relay world. I’m one who’s all for training, but not the way our company conducts them. My first response when I found out on the phone I was going to this training was, “One day? What am I gonna learn in one day?” So the plan was to carpool out to Boerne, Texas and attend this class on Tuesday, then head back to Houston Wednesday morning. After getting out of class today at 5:00 pm, my hunch was correct. Half of the day was spent going over the features of this new relay and the last half of the day was spent with hands on for the relay. This company who makes the relay holds weeklong classes specifically on this equipment. Now how do you expect us to learn something in one day on something that obviously takes at least a week to grasp? The only thing I got from the class is a free trip to Boerne with my meals paid for. At least it was a change of scenery.

Makeup

The radio is a common source of entertainment when I’m at work.  Whether on the road or on the job site FM and AM stations are on to create background noise when I work.  Here’s another interesting tidbit I heard today.  Women who wear makeup everyday can put up to 5 lbs. of chemicals into their bodies.  5 lbs. is a substantial amount when you don’t know exactly what its absorbing.  I’m not expert on women’s makeup so I haven’t a clue what different chemicals are used in the products.  As I continued listening it was mentioned that lead use to be in women’s makeup.  Lead based paint was outlawed in 1978.  It makes me wonder when lead based makeup was outlawed.  Ever seen me at the volleyball courts when mosquitoes are bad?  I don’t like to spray OFF because there’s no telling how much Deet your body will absorb during vigorous exercising.  I guess I’ll risk dying from West Nile Virus from mosquito bites before I let Deet take my life.

Slouch

Slouching restricts upper-body nerve function by up to 60 percent according to recent study, and it can cause back and neck pain, as well as headaches.  In other words, stop slouching.

Westpark tollway

The Westpark Tollway is set to increase from $1.25 during peak hours to $2.50.  The increase is hoping fewer drivers will use the tollway during peak hours.  Good thing I don’t use the Westpark Tollway for transportation.  Although the past year I’ve driven around the tollway during peak hours its been stop and go.  I don’t think raising the toll will solve the traffic issue.  Houstonians should have better public transportation system.  Metro should be allowed to expand on the Light Rail.  Businesses should have flex hours to lower the number of cars on the freeway during peak hours.  Big trucks should be off the freeway during peak hours.  Widening the freeways doesn’t always solve the problem.  When freeways are widened the problem is pushed further down the freeway where its not widened.
